All Dressed up

I have a few costumes ready and up for sale on my etsy sight.  Here is a look at the photo shoot.

Seeing Blue?

Yes blue has came out of my sewing room.  Some friends had a baby boy.  I am embarressed to say he is 5 months old already and I am finally getting this over to them.  I purchased the fabric right after she had him.  Sewed some of it together on a sewing night with my friend.  With in the next week I finished the quilt and it still has been sitting in my sewing room for a month!  Eeekkk.  I am terrible!

I cut out three different sized circles.  Found most those blues in my scrap stash.  Didn't do to bad finding non girly ones.  I did purchase the blue plaid, the backing fabric and the binding fabric.
I sewed each circle on one at a time on to a white square layering them up.  Then I pieced the squares together.

I chose a thin batting as I thought this was going to be a summer blanket.  But because I am a procrastinator it is going to have to work for fall.
I decided to stitch just outside of my seams.  I really like the look it gave it. And it is an easy effect to do with the walking foot.
I wish I had made my middle circle slightly bigger.  I was using what I could find that was round.  The ratio isn't right but in the end they looked fine.

Then I washed the blanket to get a ragged effect.
It is really quite soft and comfy.  I hope their little guy likes it too.

Day of Crafting

I have come on a girls get away with my Mother-in-law and Sister-in-laws.  Yesterday we spent the day crafting.  Everyone brought a project to share.  Take a glimpse at what we have been doing.

We are having a blast.  I will tell more about the projects later.

SummerTime Rag

This one of the funnest summer prints!  It is SummerTime By Barabra Jones for Henry Glass

It has the cutest little baskets and flowers.

The quilt shop had it in a quilt pack.  I didn't like the quilt pattern they had picked so I decided that it would be a perfect picnic blanket.  I used the rag quilt method using old levis for the back..Oh I forgot to take a picture of the back.:(

The blanket consist of 9" blocks in three variations.  Then I ran out of the strip and had to move some colors around.  I think it turned out cute dispite the unexpected changes.

We took it to the church to be put in an auction.  The girls are headed to summer camp and need funds so tonight we had spaghetti dinner for $15/family and bid on cakes for dessert.  I came home with two plates full of cupcakes.  The blanket went to a new home for the price of $150 Yeah!!!

Pixie Girl

This is the Pixie Girl by Ellie Inspired 

I just love how it turned out.  I had this fabric from last summer.  It is so light weight I just knew when I saw this pattern that this was the perfect fabric to use from my stash. It was a generous 60" wide so plenty of room to cut all those flounces.

I am just loving the gathered little bodice. I only wish that the binding along the top was not on the bias. I want those dots to go straight. That is just the weird side of me I guess.

The pattern is made to be worn alone. But, you know us we have to be modest. I prefer to settle that now rather than fight a change when they get older.

Strawberry Days Carnival

We can't go to the carnival without something strawberry can we?  I have wanted to since we moved here three years ago.  Finally I did it!  I wasn't able to get any fabulous Photos.  Little Libby just doesn't want to pose for me.  CeCe tried on V's since she was out of town.

I went with a Lil Blue Boo inspiration to make dresses out of knit with the seams exposed.  I used Simplicity 3899 because it had raglan type sleeves.  It worked great but then came the problem: what to do with the neckline.  I opted to roll hem it and then add shirring.  I think they turned out pretty darn cute!

Did I mention we needed hair bows too?  The strawberry is a free design from Mystic Threads.

 

These were so simple and fast I really have no excuse for the pounds of knit sitting around here.  Not to mention that I found a super fun t-shirt at the thrift store for a $1 and another for $2...just wait until you see it.

And as per Nichole's suggestion I found the cutest knit sheet at the thrift store too!

Buried in Ruffles

Lately I have been consumed with polka dots and ruffles.

Minnie Mouse style aprons to be exact.

 I had the fortune of being asked to make aprons for a convention.  Did I know what I said yes to?  I did a test one to see what my time would be like to make one.  I don't think it calculated to the same as when I did them assembly style.  Which I thought would be faster!  It probably still was it just seemed to take foooorrrreeevvverrrrr!

I really wanted to gather these ruffles right on to the aprons but I just couldn't get it to gather as tight as I needed it to.  That was a real bummer to have to add the extra step in there.

It started with hemmed 3" strips. Thank heavens for the rolled hem foot!

Then ruffle that stuff up.  120" per apron.

That is 126 yards of ruffled goodness people!

It seemed to go on and on from there...pockets, ties, top band.  I had planned to put on my label on with the waist band, well that was totally over looked as I got to the last step.  Must have been tired of thinking by then.  Bummer!

note to self: anything times 40 will take forever!
