A get away

JuJu and I went to a overnight "To Scrap or Not to Scrap" activity at our local rec center.  It was so much fun.  We packed up the sewing machine and supplies.  JuJu produced this wonderful belt.
We used the tutorial from Lil Blue Boo

One thing we did learn was to make the wrappers go back around on the 'flap' side of the belt since the back side shows.

Next up she really wants to change her binder into a pillow so she can sleep during History class. Ummm, not going to happen!  But she did pick the softest fabric she could find at the store. I did allow her one layer of cotton batting :)

We had a great time being feed.  Sleeping on air mattresses on a gym floor.  Eating again.  Making jewelery.  Sewing.  Paper crafting.  And anyone else obsessed with Twilight.  I just barely allowed her to read it and now she can't put it down.

Losing teeth

Can you believe I still haven't made my own child one of these.  We keep giving them to her friends for their birthdays!

This pillow turned out tiny.  about 3 1/2" square.

Dr Seuss Day

I saw some darling dresses on a forum this week and I couldn't resist. The fabric was $10.99 a yard! with out a coupon :0  so unlike me. But don't you think they are worth it?

Before I could get the straight pictures we had to do this:

I used a T-shirt to start.  The original I was coping from SewForum made the top but I was pressed for time.  And, if you can believe it, I couldn't find enough white fabric in my drawers.  I like the t-shirt option.
On CeCe's I did 'rough' applique. I ironed the cut out of the Dr. Seuss fish and ironed it on some red knit.  Then I zig-zag stitched that on the shirt.

And just to step up this little skirt a bit I added rick rack to the top layer.  I used steam to seam to iron it into place.  I used my fancy shmancy  binder foot to add that double fold bias tape.  I really want to get another one that does a wider binding.

I think they were pleased with their Dr Seuss day attire!
Happy Birthday Dr Seuss!

One tough Week

My younger brother of only 30 passed on this week.  It was sudden and unexpected, and still unexplainable.  But with love and courage we are doing okay.  I am extremely thankful for my belief in eternal life and that we will see him again and that he is now amongst many that love him.

I made him this drape...or more so made it for my Mom and Dad as a keepsake.
It is quite crumpled in this picture something must have happened between funeral and cemetery

It is one of the most stitch intensive designs that little fish on there that I have ever done.  23 color changes. And someone was really watching over my shoulder because there is not a pucker on that thin (well starched) cotton.  On the lettering however there was some tension problems there :(
I really liked the personal touch of having it there as we did the burial at the cemetery.
Mom and Dad were thrilled.

As you can see on this picture it is a handkerchief (it was suppose to be higher than that so the flowers hid the top of the handkerchief.)

And so you can see the beautiful flowers before my drape made them fall off when they were moving the casket:

My advise: maybe add a center strip of something non slip to the middle of the drape?  Oh the poor Funeral Director was just mortified.  But everything worked out just beautifully.  There were sooo many loving people there and such great family support. It turned out to be a sad, beautiful day as we laid my brother to rest.

Large Rose Pillow

Can I just say she looooves it! I know it seems a little crazy. The hubs didn't really care for it. But it looks fantastic on her bed!

Valentine Wreath

After Christmas the house looks so plain!  I am attempting to make up for that by making Valentine crafts.

I saw this cute garland here, but I am to lazy to go to all that trouble and time.  I dug through my scraps (so glad I keep my scrap ribbon aren't you?)  I ripped strips of fabric about 1"x4" give or take and inch.

Now here comes the lazy part.  I got out some fold over Elastic (only because it was pink and I thought it would show less, it could have been any elastic)  I went to the sewing machine and started stuffing the bits under the foot, sewing it right to the elastic which I pulled as I sewed.

Wrapped around this wreath that I had picked up at the Dollar Tree last fall and never did anything with.  Hung it up.  Now that was a quick 15 minutes!  My kind of craft :)

Well I just had to add another 5 minutes to my wreath. What do you think of some roses?

Thinking of you

CeCe has a little girl in her class that has an autoimmune type disease.  She has had to stay home for the winter.  Since she was missing the Christmas Party I decided to make a blanket that we could take over to her.  I had this really cute purple fabric in my stash and thought it would make a cute rag quilt.  The other squares I did in white so all the kids could write on it for her.

I think she really liked it.  I know her Mom appreciated the thought.
